In this case, a teacher.
He believes that it's better to bury your kids than their attacker. He thinks schools shouldn't evacuate during a shooting because it unfairly rewards children who are resourceful enough to get out of dodge.
The logic in his thinking (and many of his commenters) fails me, perhaps because it doesn't exist. Surely he has no real moral compass.

This morning I was packing the car to start the 800 mile trek back home from the in-laws. I open the front door to take stuff outside and the dog is following me. There is one slight problem - there is a squirrel at the bottom of the steps, and the dog sees it. The chase begins, and the squirrel is smart enough to go up a tree before the dog gets it (it was close). I catch the dog and go inside to tell everyone we're ready to go.
Three minutes later, I'm telling the story to them as we walk out the door and I point to the tree the squirrel went up. Just then I look up and see a hawk leaving the treetop with something in its talons. Yep, you guessed it, a squirrel.
That'll learn him.

Thoughts on timing

While reading articles and considering the information, a thought struck me. Both the Senate and the House version of the health care bill were passed at night, while most of us were sleeping.

God has something to say about people doing things in the dark:

When it Rains . . .

It pours.

So, last night on the way home from work, my speedometer stopped working and stuck at 0. No big deal, I'm good at speed estimation.

This morning, I leave the house a little before 6 to play basketball with some buddies. I start down our road and realize that my transmission won't shift past 2nd gear. Ugh. Halfway down the road it shifts up and speeds up my transit.

Then I pull out onto the main road. Transmission shifts up, albeit slowly, as I hear two bumps and my car jolts a little. Then a noise. Loud, obnoxious noise. I stop. It's dark, I don't have my flashlight with me (will be correcting that problem). I walk around the car to find a flat tire. A flat tire with a hole in it big enough to fit 3 fingers into.

So, I guess I'll be checking if the cost of repairing the transmission is worth the cost of the car. In all fairness, I've had that car for 4 years, and I've worked it like a truck. With only 4 cylinders, I haul garbage, lumber, pull trailers, and do anything else I can get it to do. I guess we'll see if my friend stays around or if I get a new friend - probably a truck I can work like a truck.

Ahhh, 5.56 Goodness!

Post about controversial stuff, and FEMA takes a quick glance at me. Post about a Senator responding via e-mail, and I have the State of TN, Senate, and House all looking. I think I'll begin to scratch my head now . . .

Nauseated

So, right before we went to church tonight, we had on the television in a rare case, and ABC faux news in an even rarer case. Some moron was interviewing Obama about health care. Guess what Obama said?

• Without this bill, healthcare premiums will be driven up
• Without this bill, unemployment will go up
• Without this bill, companies will drop benefits
• Without this bill, the federal government will go bankrupt
• some other bs I don't remember - it was 4 hours ago and I didn't take notes.

Okay, so let's recap - blatant lies. Every figure I've seen shows health costs at least doubling, plus companies going out of business BECAUSE of the bill, not the lack thereof. The only thing that might have truth in what he said is that the .gov will go bankrupt - that may be true because they will be imposing massive taxes and fines with the bill. However, the bill is set to increase the deficit to the tune of 1 TRILLION DOLLARS! How do you keep from going bankrupt by going further into debt?

Anyone who can think for themselves should be terrified/angry beyond belief at what is happening, especially with all of the underhanded things the dems are doing and the blatant lies that are being told.

And you know something else, I didn't even know our health system was in a crisis until these blabber-mouths started spouting (more) lies. We have the best health care in the world!! So our insurance system needs tweaked - oh well, at least people can live long enough in this country to pay our hospital bills. Others aren't so lucky.

This isn't about health care, folks! It's about control! Don't give it to them. Let's take back our country peacefully, before it's too late! As Newbius said,

E-Mail from Bob Corker

So, a short while ago, I sent an e-mail to my Senators about the health care bill, urging them not to vote for it. Today, I was pleasantly surprised with an e-mail I received from the only representative who has cared to reply to me about anything. I'm really beginning to like Corker now. Here's what he sent me:

Thank you for taking the time to contact my office about H.R. 3590, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Your input is important to me, and I appreciate the time you took to share your thoughts.

I share your concerns about the bill and assure you that I will not vote for it if it is even close to its present form when it comes before the Senate for a final vote. I believe all Americans should have the opportunity to be able to purchase affordable, private, quality health care coverage and have presented several reforms to achieve that goal. However, among many other significant problems, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act would take money away from Medicare, which is predicted to be insolvent by 2017, and leverage it to create a new entitlement program rather than using it to make Medicare more solvent. The bill also expands Medicaid and sends the cost to states, a huge unfunded mandate that creates a very painful situation for Tennessee as well as other states. H.R. 3590 uses typical Washington budget gimmickry, taking ten years of new taxes to finance six years of spending, resulting in huge deficits in the next decades. In addition, studies are showing that Tennesseans who have health insurance will see their costs rise dramatically as a result of this bill.

Freedom Suppression in Copenhagen

So, first I read this story about a reporter being stopped from asking questions and filming - at gunpoint.

Then, I hear on the news tonight that over the past two days, around 1800 people have been arrested for protesting the meeting in Copenhagen.

Still think this is about climate change? I beg to differ.

Ignorance and Evil

First, read this story about the health bill in the Senate.

So, they've come up with a public option without calling it a public option. They are opening up the ages for uninsured Americans to enroll in Medicare at the age of 55. Now, to some, this seems like a good idea, but let's face it, Medicare is part of the problem. Not to mention that it means a smaller number of workers is paying for a larger number of dependents. Certainly that won't make the system worse or raise taxes.

Then you have to love this paragraph:

Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y., called it "an unvarnished, complete victory for people like me who have been arguing for a single-payer system."

If that doesn't scare you enough:

Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., described the agreement as a significant step in the struggle to round up the votes needed to pass the broader overhaul legislation. The House has already passed its version, and Democrats are driving for a Senate vote before Christmas.

That would leave only a final compromise between the houses before legislation could go to Obama for his signature.

Joe Lieberman, one of the last holdouts based on the subject of a public option, looks like he could go for the bill now.

It adds more regulation on industry:

Insurance companies would be required to spend 90 percent of their income from premiums on providing benefits.

And of course, they are still trying to keep the costs secret:

Many officials declined to discuss details, heeding an admonition that if they did, the Congressional Budget office would feel compelled to release preliminary cost estimates that lawmakers prefer to receive secretly.

So much for openness and honesty. There was word from one which confirms what we've been thinking:

Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, told reporters premiums would total about $7,600 annually until federal subsidies became available in 2014. That translated into more than $600 a month, far higher than the $96.40 paid by beneficiaries age 65 and up.

And now, someone else is confirming what I've been saying for a while - Medicare is the problem:

The Mayo Clinic Health Policy Center sent notices to lawmakers criticizing the emerging plan. Expanding Medicare to individuals 55 to 64 years old, it said, "would ultimately hurt patients by accelerating the financial ruin of hospitals and doctors across the country."

My dad told me recently that the president of the hospital where he works sent a letter to Obama saying that if the health bill passed, they would have to close down (they are the largest employer in the city, by a long shot now that the GM plant is closing). So, let's add to unemployment and the number of uninsured and just keep this in a constant state of regression and ruin for the country.

Ammo Review

Today, while running errands, I stopped by my local gun store. The little family-run shop actually had .380 ammunition, at the cheapest cost of $24 per box of 50. Ugh, I was paying half that a little over a year ago. On the other hand, they have it right now and no one else does, and my supply is down to about 60 rounds, way too low for a gun nut like myself. So, I picked up a box of the Sellier and Bellot 92gr FMJ to see how it runs through my Bersa, and how accurate it is.

I get home and get a sudden itch to shoot right away (not that that's new or anything), so I load 5 rounds in a mag and head outside. Started off firing 3 rounds at 7 yards to check initial grouping. WOW!!! About a 1/2 inch group! I have NEVER done that with my Bersa before. I've done some nice grouping with the Aguila ammo I've been using, but not THAT nice. I stepped back to 15 yards, hit way low the first time (my error, not the ammo), corrected that for my last round, which hit 1/2 inch from the group.

I'm impressed. I'm gonna shoot through the rest of the box on a warmer day to see if that's consistent with the ammo, or if I just had a fluke. I'm guessing it's the ammo, in which case Robertson's will be getting more of my money.

Rounds were hitting high on the target, so I guess I wasn't gripping tight enough. I'll correct that next time I'm out.

A friend of mine forwarded me this e-mail that a lady had sent to AARP. I think this lady is now one of my favorite people ever. Read the whole thing.

This letter to the AARP says it all. It is a must read regardless of
your age. Some people just make sense in what they say. This lady
certainly does.

This was sent to Mr. Rand who is the Executive Director of AARP

Dear Mr. Rand,

Recently you sent us a letter encouraging us to renew our lapsed
membership in AARP by the requested date. I know it is not what you were
looking for, but this is the most honest response I can give you. Our
gap in coverage is merely a microscopic symptom of the real problem, a
deepening lack of faith..

While we have proudly maintained our membership for several years and
have long admired the AARP goals and principles, regrettably, we can no
longer endorse it's abdication of our values. Your letter specifically
stated that we can count on AARP to speak up for our rights, yet the
voice we hear is not ours. Your offer of being kept up to date on
important issues through DIVIDED WE FAIL presents neither an impartial
view nor the one we have come to embrace. We do believe that when two
parties agree all the time on everything presented to them, one is
probably not necessary. But, when the opinions and long term goals are
diametrically opposed, the divorce is imminent. This is the philosophy
which spawned our 200 years of government.

Once upon a time, we looked forward to being part of the senior
demographic. We also looked to AARP to provide certain benefits and give
our voice a power we could not possibly hope to achieve on our own. AARP
gave us a sense of belonging which we no longer enjoy. The Socialist
politics practiced by the Obama administration and empowered by AARP
serves only to raise the blood pressure my medical insurance strives to
contain. Clearly a conflict of interest there!

We do not understand the AARP posture, feel greatly betrayed by the
guiding forces whom we expected to map out our senior years and leave
your ranks with a great sense of regret. We mitigate that disappointment
with the relief of knowing that we are not contributing to the problem
anymore by renewing our membership. There are numerous other
organizations which offer discounts without threatening our way of life
or offending our sensibilities.

This Presidential Administration scares the living daylights out of us.
Not just for ourselves, but for our proud and bloodstained heritage,but
even more importantly for our children and grandchildren. Washington has
rendered Soylent Green a prophetic cautionary tale rather than a
nonfiction scare tactic. I have never in my life endorsed any militant
or radical groups, yet now I find myself listening to them. I don't have
to agree with them to appreciate the fear which birthed their existence.
Their borderline insanity presents little more than a balance to the
voice of the Socialist mindset in power. Perhaps I became American by a
great stroke of luck in some cosmic uterine lottery, but in my adulthood
I CHOOSE to embrace it and nurture the freedoms it represents as well as
the responsibilities it requires.

Your website generously offers us the opportunity to receive all
communication in Spanish. ARE YOU KIDDING??? Someone has broken into our
'house', invaded our home without our invitation or consent. The
President has insisted we keep the perpetrator in comfort and learn the
perp language so we can communicate our reluctant welcome to them.
I DON'T choose to welcome them.
I DON'T choose to support them..
I DON'T choose to educate them.
I DON'T choose to medicate them, pay for their food or clothing.
American home invaders get arrested.
Please explain to me why foreign lawbreakers can enjoy privileges on
American soil that Americans do not get?
Why do some immigrants have to play the game to be welcomed and others
only have to break & enter to be welcomed?

We travel for a living. Walt hauls horses all over this great country,
averaging over 10,000 miles a month when he is out there. He meets more
people than a politician on caffeine overdose. Of all the many good
folks he enjoyed on this last 10,000 miles, this trip yielded only ONE
supporter of the current administration. One of us is out of touch with
mainstream America. Since our poll is conducted without funding, I have
more faith in it than one which is power driven.

We have decided to forward this to everyone on our mailing list, and
will encourage them to do the same. With several hundred in my address
book, I have every faith that the eventual exponential factor will make
a credible statement to you.. I am disappointed as hell.
I am scared as hell. I am MAD as hell, and I'm NOT gonna take it anymore!
